Ingredients

Pizza Dough

  • 300 g all-purpose flour
  • 5 g salt
  • 7 g active dry yeast
  • 200 ml warm water (around 40°C)
  • 10 ml olive oil

Pizza Sauce

  • 200 g canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 5 g dried origanum
  • salt and pepper to taste

Toppings

  • 150 g mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 100 g bell peppers sliced
  • 100 g red onion thinly sliced
  • 100 g black olives sliced
  • 100 g mushrooms sliced
  • 50 g cherry tomatoes halved
  • fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Pizza Dough:

  • In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  • Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the flour mixture.
  • Mix everything together until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise for about 1-2 hours or until it has doubled in size.

Prepare the Pizza Sauce:

  • In a small saucepan, heat the tomato sauce or passata over low heat.
  • Add the minced garlic, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly. Remove from heat and set aside.

Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 220°C (430°F) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet in the oven to heat.

Assemble the Pizza:

  • Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two equal portions for two pizzas.
  • Roll out each portion of dough on a lightly floured surface into a thin round shape, about 12 inches (30 cm) in diameter.
  • Transfer the rolled-out dough to a piece of parchment paper to make it easier to transfer to the oven.

Add Toppings:

  • Spread a thin layer of the prepared pizza sauce over the dough.
  • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce.
  • Add your choice of toppings: bell peppers, red onion, black olives, mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes.

Bake:

  • Carefully transfer the parchment paper with the pizza onto the preheated baking stone or baking sheet in the oven.
  • Bake for about 15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling and slightly browned.

Garnish:

  • Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a minute.
  • Garnish with fresh basil leaves.

Serve:

  • Slice the vegetarian pizza and serve hot. Enjoy!
Feel free to customize the toppings to your preference. Enjoy your homemade vegetarian pizza!
